Employers’
DisABILITY Etiquette Handbook

This handbook presents guidelines on appropriate and acceptable behavior when interacting with people with disabilities. The etiquette guidelines presented are consistent with practices endorsed by recognized national disability organizations and also comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. However, it should be noted that there are over 50 million Americans with disabilities, and people with disabilities don’t always agree on what is offensive or correct. The final determination of what is appropriate behavior must always follow not just legal correctness, but must also take into account the feelings and needs of each individual with a disability.
